Today’s dairy cows are being dried off at higher milk production levels than ever before, which can have negative impacts on cow health and welfare during the dry period. Udder engorgement and milk leakage can leave cows entering dry-off at a heightened risk for new cases of mastitis.
 
BOVIKALC® DRY boluses offer innovative technology that supports dry cow health and comfort by reducing milk production at dry-off, which helps to reduce udder engorgement and milk leakage.3

Features & Benefits

Dry-off is an important phase of the lactation cycle because it prepares the cow and her udder for the next lactation. BOVIKALC® DRY helps provide a more comfortable dry-off by reducing udder engorgement and milk leakage3. In a recent study, cows given BOVIKALC DRY had:

  • Reduced somatic cell counts1
  • Reduced risk for clinical mastitis1
  • Reduced risk for removal from the herd1
  • Increased comfort and lying time2
Dosage & Administration

Give two boluses at last milking or 8-12 hours before the last milking.

 

Do not administer more than 4 boluses per 24 hours.

 

Ask your Boehringer Ingelheim representative for a BOVIKALC® bolus applicator.

Safety

  • Use only as directed. For cattle only.
  • Follow label instructions carefully.
  • Incorrect use or handling may cause serious side effects.
  • User assumes risk of use or handling contrary to instructions, or under abnormal conditions or conditions not reasonably foreseeable.
  • Only administer using the BOVIKALC® branded applicator.
  • Do not give BOVIKALC DRY boluses to cows lying down.
  • Do not administer BOVIKALC DRY if the coating on the bolus becomes damaged or the bolus is broken.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • BOVIKALC DRY is not for human use.

 

Storage:

  • Store at or below 30°C (86°F).
  • The bolus should be stored in the original plastic tube until immediately before use, as it is susceptible to humidity.

Advances in genetics for milk production and overall fertility have led today’s dairy cows to still be producing a high volume at dry-off, which can cause discomfort and increased risk of new infections. BOVIKALC® DRY boluses were developed to reduce milk production at dry-off to better support cows’ health and well-being during this critical period.

In a study, cows that were given BOVIKALC DRY boluses had reduced somatic cell counts, reduced risk of clinical mastitis, and increased comfort and lying time.
