POLYFLEX^® (ampicillin for injectable suspension) is a fast-acting antibiotic that provides broad-spectrum treatment of respiratory infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

POLYFLEX treatment goes beyond traditional penicillin therapy to treat bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever, calf pneumonia and bovine pneumonia) caused by Aerobacter spp., Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella multocida, Staphylococcus spp. and Klebsiella spp.

POLYFLEX treatment is also effective against Escherichia coli (E. coli) susceptible to ampicillin trihydrate.

It is approved for both beef and dairy cattle (including lactating dairy cows), as well as calves (including non-ruminating veal calves). It is in the β-lactam class of antibiotics.

Mixing

• POLYFLEX^® (ampicillin for injectable suspension) treatment is supplied in glass bottles containing 25 mg of sterile ampicillin powder.
• Transfer 79 mL of sterile water into the bottle of POLYFLEX.
• Thoroughly mix to rehydrate the ampicillin powder.

Administration

• Give an intramuscular injection in the neck at 2 mL per 100 pounds of body weight. Per BQA recommendations, do not inject more than 10 mL per site.

Storage

• After rehydration, store in a refrigerator for up to three months.
• Shake well before each use.
• Three days’ treatment is usually adequate, but treatment should be continued for 48 to 72 hours after the animal has become asymptomatic, not to exceed seven days.

POLYFLEX RESIDUE WARNING: Do not treat cattle for more than seven days. Milk from treated cows must not be used for food during treatment, and for 48 hours (four milkings) after the last treatment. Cattle must not be slaughtered for food during treatment, and for 144 hours (six days) after the last treatment.
